How orchids saved us from the clutches of rogue army ?

Dibya Dutta

It was in the year 1998, the situation in Assam was very tense and operation against ULFA extremist was going on in full swing. Also the General assembly as well as Parliamentary election date were declared and nearing. The entire Assam was fortified and looked like a battle field.

Unfortgetable visit after 26 Years

Unfortgetable visit  after 26 Years

The first ever get together of Cotton College 1982 batch on 11th April 2010 at Guwahati , after 26 years,  was  a grand success with so many of our friends attending with their families with full gusto. Bonhomie amongst the batchmates  was conspicuous and a spirit of comradery  encompassed the gathering.

3rd mess

To see and identify  long lost batchmates of both science and arts streams was truly the best part of the occasion and  was  a profound feeling.

My Kabiraji Friend

My Kabiraji Friend

During the days of Cotton College hostel in 1982-84, a few activities like  morning rushes to classes, afternoon chai- addas at the  canteen,  evening walk to Panbazar were  my  favourites;  but  the senseless kabiraji by few hostel boarders have been  most weird part of my   life.

Farewell to my Senior

Dibya Dutta
Farewell to  my Senior
When we joined  Cotton's hostel in the early  80's as freshers ,  we were givebn some  household chores by  seniors  like copying notebooks, practical books or  old question papers ,  going for local errands etc. Some smart freshers were  even chosen as special messenger  to Girls' hostels but luckily I was not  amongst them possibly  I was not  too smart  for such cruciial  missions.

Messages to our children

Messages to our children

Dear children, on this auspicious day, I would like to leave some message for our children, which may, perhaps, will help them to cope up with tough time of future. Change is an intrinsic property of nature. In future, you will know why change occurs to everything. Right now, I would like to say that you have not seen any social and technological changes. Because, you have appeared in this
world at its heyday of technological marvels.

My Hostel Days in 1982

My  Hostel Days in 1982
When i first went to the 3rd mess in Cotton College in 1982  to study PU(Sc), i was prepared to face the worst kind of ragging. On the first day, after a  few minutes of my checking in a room , in the block facing the College Admn Block , two seniors called  me to verandah. Anticipating for the worst ,I obediently followed them. Nice in the beginning they started asking questions of general nature and also asked what my hobby was; to which i told 'martial arts'.

Biya Naam Competition

   Biya Naam Competition

During our time in the year 1982, at cotton Girls' hostel i.e. CG-1 each room’s capacity was  usually for  five , but at Assam type block it  was six. I was in room 17 with sangita, Ranjana, and three  other girls. At room 16, Arunima, Urmila, Sangita Rajkhowa, Majuli were staying. Girls of room 16 and 17 were so deeply attached  that sometime we felt badly to remove the divider. Most of the times we used to keep our  doors open so that  anyone from the two  rooms  could  enter at any moment ..

Sangreal

Two years  back, my elder son Tonoy  with his a few friends formed a 'Rock' band which they named as  'SANGREAL'. We didn't really pay much attention to this  his achievement when he told us about it.because he had been only learning how to play the guitar.
